The Distraction Corner with Kiki Judith

Introduction

In light of current events, I am aware of how easy it is to feel scared and stressed about the near future. That is why I am creating a 20 day challenge of sorts to help us not feel alone or bored when we are staying at home. Most importantly I want to start this challenge to prevent us from feeling overwhelmed by all of the negative news and information we are being bombarded with about COVID 19. The Distraction Corner Challenge is going to be a self-care challenge that we can all join together by sharing pictures of our accomplishments on our stories. I want to create a community to combat the collective loneliness so many of us are feeling right now.

By now, you’re probably a little bit confused as I haven’t explained exactly what this challenge entails.

What is it?

The Distraction Corner Challenge starts tomorrow, March 30, 2020 and will continue for at least 20 days. It is comprised of small challenges to do everyday to take care of ourselves and create community. Some of these challenges are trivial and others are a little bit more productive. They are all meant to be beneficial for your sanity, though. If you don’t like a challenge or can’t do one of the challenges for whatever reason, make up your own that day and post it as well! The only requirement is that it falls into one of these categories: Disco(very), DIY, Activity, or Productivity. Disco is just referring to learning something new and Activity is anything that doesn’t fall into the other categories. DIY is pretty obvious and Productivity is referring to anything relating to school, work, health, housework, and personal growth

The other part of this challenge is to keep us all distracted from the bad news and focus on what you’re able to accomplish. I’m not saying to completely disregard the news. What I am saying is that you need time to relax and decompress and pretend like the world is fine. Otherwise the chaos of it all will eat you alive and I don’t think anyone wants that.

Share this challenge with your friends and family if you want them to join the challenge and feel a little distracted and a little calmer with you. Get creative, have fun, and like high school musical taught us, as cheesy as it may be, we are all in this together.

Conclusion

I want to give you a quick recap just in case something isn’t clear.

  1. The challenge begins tomorrow, March, 30, 2020 and will run for (at least) 20 more days.
  2. The purpose of this challenge is to find a sense of community and hope in the midst of all of the loneliness and chaos. This is why it’s important to share it with your loved ones so you can stay connected to the people you love.
  3. This challenge is not super strict so if you are unable to do a certain challenge, for whatever reason, write it down and share it anyways. I’d love to see your ideas! Just make sure it falls into one of the categories (i.e. whichever category is being used that day).
  4. Share your little victories on social media. If you tag me on Instagram, I will add them to my story!
  5. Don’t feel bad about missing a day or starting late. Our schedules are all crazy right now. Just because you aren’t able to do every single challenge doesn’t mean you can’t participate!
  6. Let’s stay safe and healthy while doing this! None of the challenges involve buying supplies or leaving your home for this very reason. Use what you have and continue social distancing. Part of the challenge is to relieve a little boredom that comes with staying home and to continue following the common sense that is keeping you there no matter how badly you want to leave.
  7. We are all in this together, seriously. No matter where you are or what you’re going through. We are all affected by this pandemic in some way. So be nice to each other and share the love! There’s no need to be negative.

I hope you have a lot of fun and I can’t wait for you to join me in The Distraction Corner!
